The best stairlift is the one that fits

There is no single best stairlift. The best one fits your stairs, suits the user's body and comes with good local service. This guide shows how to choose, without rankings anyone paid for.

Start with the stairs

Then the user

  • Weight: many standard models carry 125–140 kg; heavy-duty models go higher.
  • Knees and hips: a perch or standing lift if sitting is hard.
  • Wheelchair: a platform lift or home lift.

Then the service

The lift is only as good as the company that fits and services it: ask about response times, spare parts and how long they have served your area.

Compare models

All specs on our model pages come from the makers' own documents. FiveStair is not paid by makers to list or rank them.

Frequently asked questions

Which stairlift brand is best?

Brands differ in models, prices and local service. Compare the models that fit your stairs and the service in your area; independent owner surveys (such as Which? in the UK) also compare brands.

Are cheaper stairlifts worse?

Not necessarily. Compare the warranty, servicing and what is included; reconditioned straight lifts can be good value.
